Adventure Golf at Legoland Windsor

A new Adventure Golf venue is being created at Legoland in Windsor.

A new Adventure Golf venue is being created at Legoland in Windsor

Legoland Windsor was previously home to an outdoor crazy golf course, but it's long gone.

The new Adventure Golf venue at Legoland Windsor will be an indoor attraction containing four individually themed courses.

They will be more new courses for us to visit on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour.

We're big fans of Lego and have long thought a Lego-themed layout - both in real-life and toy form - would be a winning idea.

We never got the chance to play the old Mole-in-One Mini Golf at Legoland Windsor before it closed in 2013. However, it didn't have much, if any, Lego theming to it.

Visit the Legoland Windsor website for more information.

Many thanks to our friend, minigolf rival and fellow minigolf explorer Matt Dodd for sending over these photos from his recent visit to play the Safari Adventure Golf course at Woodlands Family Theme Park in Totnes, South Devon.

This is an interesting hole as this green is it. There isn't any lane leading up to it. It's also a raised 'volcano' type hole so isn't as flat as it first appears in the photo. Quite strange

Crazy Golf and Crazy Snooker at Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle in Devon

There are Crazy Golf and Crazy Snooker courses at Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle near Ilfracombe in North Devon.

One of the places to visit on our post-pandemic bucket list is Watermouth Family Theme Park and Castle near Ilfracombe in Devon.

There's a 9-hole Crazy ‘Fountain’ Golf course there AND a Crazy Snooker layout. When I checked with the theme park the team confirmed it is a Pit-Pat layout. That makes it the only outdoor Pit-Pat course in the UK!

Watermouth money

Two of the tokens in my collection come from Watermouth Castle. I found them at an antiques fair back in 2015 and I found out they date from before 1992.

Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers

A look back at our visit to the Extraordinary Golf course at Alton Towers.

Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers

We're long overdue a return visit to Alton Towers. We couldn't have had a rainier day when we were there back in June 2007.

One of the things we'd been really looking forward to was playing the Extraordinary Golf course.

Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers
That's a BIG minigolf windmill

In 2007 we were still less than a year into our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour and the excitement at playing a new course was tremendous. That's not to say I don't get super excited when I hear about or see a new minigolf course now!

Imagine our disappointment when we arrived to find the course had been closed for the day as the weather was so bad as to render the course unplayable.

Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers
Not your typical water ride

Looking on the Alton Towers website there are two 9-hole courses with miniature versions of the most famous rides and attractions at the theme park. It'll be brilliant to play them.

Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers
Even the free monorail ride couldn't cheer me up

We've now visited 933 courses since September 2006. Of those we've been able to play 535. Many of them multiple times.

We haven't been able to play 398 courses we've visited for a number of reasons. Some have been waterlogged like the Extraordinary Golf at Alton Towers, while others have been derelict, abandoned, out-of-season, under construction or completely removed!

A BIG thank you goes to my friend, and fellow Coeliac blogger, Laura aka the Gluten Free Traveller for sending me these great photos of the Mini Golf course at Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Fingers crossed we'll play the course on a visit to Oregon in the future. Laura lives in Portland and tells me that the city is full of dedicated gluten free places.

Check out the Oaks Amusement Park website for more information.

The course at Oaks Amusement Park is the second Laura has found on her travels around Oregan. Earlier this week she spotted this Wizard of Oz Mini Golf course at Rockaway Beach.

We love seeing different courses around the world. The one at Oaks Amusement Park looks like it'd be fun to play.

A visit to Southport Pleasureland

Southport Pleasureland, the 'Happy Halloween Capital of the UK!'

We recently returned to Southport for the first time since September 2009 and we were pleasantly surprised to see that the Pleasureland theme park had reopened. Not only that, but it looked to be doing very well and they had really gone to town on the Halloween theming.

At Southport Pleasureland - the Happy Halloween Capital of the UK!
We survived the haunted maze at Southport Pleasureland

In fact they've gone so far as to declare themselves the 'Happy Halloween Capital of the UK!'

Southport Pleasureland - the Happy Halloween Capital of the UK!

I don't think I have ever seen so many pumpkins in one place before. There are thousands of them there!

Plenty of characters too

Others were on their own

Unfortunately since our previous visit the Moroccan Adventure Golf course has been removed as the park has had extensive changes made. The area that was once home to the minigolf course is now a pathway. A shame really.

However, the rest of Pleasureland is great. We really enjoyed our wander round - especially the walk through the haunted maze.

Monorail, Monorail, Monorail

Riding the rail at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach.

The home straight of the monorail at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach

On our recent trip to Great Yarmouth I had a very pleasure surprise and a real treat as I got to ride a monorail!

I'm a big fan of monorails and the one at the Pleasure Beach in Great Yarmouth is one of the few examples still operating in the UK.

At the Mono thingy

The Pleasure Beach monorail crosses over the roller coaster track

And actually cuts through the middle of it

Into some sort of monorail wash!

The Pleasure Beach Monorail gets the thumbs up from me

I've got great memories of riding the monorail at Butlin's Minehead back in the 1980's and 90's. We also played the Pirate Flyer Laser Shooting Monorail ride at Coral Island in Blackpool a few years ago.

Banksy's Dismaland Bemusement Park

New temporary Bemusement Park open for the summer in Weston-super-Mare.

Renowned street artist Banksy has created a dystopian theme park on the site of the old Tropicana Lido in Weston-super-Mare called 'Dismaland', and the park features a Crazy Golf course.

We love visiting the British seaside and while there are some top spots for fun and entertainment, we've seen our fair share of dismal seaside resorts and deteriorating fun parks and amusement arcades amongst the 200 we've been to.

Having visited 669 Crazy, Mini and Adventure Golf courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour we have come across a large amount of derelict and abandoned courses.

One of the many many many derelict and abandoned miniature golf courses we've found on our tour

We've even played the Crazy Golf course at the end of the world!

This was 'Golf Apocalypse' during the summer of 2012
What's more dismal, dystopian and crazy than playing a minigolf obstacle made of old tyres next to another that is made of the fuselage of a crashed plane. This was 'Golf Apocalypse' during the summer of 2012

Minigolf has been used in many artistic creations so it's not surprising to see a course pop-up at Dismaland. The 'Mini Gulf' layout features an oil caliphate theme, and the course is constructed from the old hockey pitch at Cheltenham Ladies College.

On our tour we've played art-based minigolf at the one-day only M!MS Mini Golf course in Bedford, Crazee Golf at the TinType Gallery in London, the Bompas & Parr food architecture course on the roof of Selfridges and Putt Putt #2 by TURF Projects in Croydon. We've also not played art courses in Clerkenwell and Folkestone, where the remnants of the old Arnold Palmer Crazy Golf course were used to create a series of beach huts!

This year our friends over at A Couple of Putts created an art-installation course called Sparkle City Mini Putt in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While the team at The Putting Penguin have seen and reviewed a number of art-courses over the years. Earlier this summer my friend and crazy golf rival Gareth Holmes visited "The BEST Mini Golf Course in Venice" at artist's Doug Fishbone's Leisure Land Golf.

Dismaland does look well worth a visit. Hopefully we'll get along before it closes for good on the 27th September this year.

As big fans of Crazy Golf we also run The Crazy Golf Museum - itself featured in the book Crap Days Out!

While you're in Weston-super-Mare there are plenty of other traditional seaside amusements to visit, along with three miniature golf courses.

The old grass Putting course and Miniature Railway we visited in 2011 was removed a couple of years ago, but I've recently heard it's re-opened and called 'The Putting Shed'.

At Dismaland there are a limited number of tickets available each day, with 4,000 punters allowed in at £3 per person, which sounds reasonable. Check out the Dismaland website for more information, opening times and a site map.

The Banksy artwork Well Hung Lover on Park Street in Bristol
Back in 2011 our friend and minigolf rival Kevin Moseley took us for a tour around Bristol and we spotted the Banksy artwork Well Hung Lover on Park Street

If you like your entertainment options to be unique and weird then I highly recommend a visit to the Novelty Automation arcade in London and the Under the Pier Show in Southwold, Suffolk too.

Since our last visit in May 2011 the fun park has undergone an upgrade and rebranding. It looks nice and fresh. We had a look around the amusement arcade and bowling alley and must say it looks really smart.
