Landmark Golf in Wolsingham

Last year we played the Landmark Golf course in Wolsingham, County Durham.

We were on our way up to Newcastle upon Tyne for the World Transplant Games and called in to Wolsingham Sports Hall to play the pop-up Landmark Golf course.

Playing Adventure Golf at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan

Visiting the Adventure Golf course at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan.

Adventure Golf at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan

Three years ago we headed to Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan to contest the Great Northern Minigolf Open tournament on the two minigolf courses in the park.

First up was the Adventure Golf course.

It was the 700th course we visited in the British Isles and 727th overall. We've now been to 909 in the British Isles and 948 overall since 2006.

The Adventure Golf at Haigh Woodland Park in Wigan is a very large layout with some long holes and big obstacles.

The North Bay Crazy Golf course in Scarborough

A look at the North Bay Mini Golf course in Scarborough.

The North Bay Crazy Golf course in Scarborough

Last June we visited our 900th minigolf course when we played at the North Bay Crazy Golf in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

The North Bay Crazy Golf course in Scarborough

The 12-hole course was the 861st course we'd been to in the British Isles and the 520th course played at that point.

It was a brilliant and fun layout and well worth playing when you next get the chance.

Minigolf in the North Bay since 1925

Interestingly The Scarborough News has published a number of photos showing forgotten views of Scarborough. One of those (number 20) shows a miniature golf course at North Bay in 1925.

The course is in the exact same spot as the current Crazy Golf course.

While the buildings opposite the course have changed, the steps and pathway remain the same as in 1925

It's wonderful to think that minigolf has been played on the same location for almost 100 years.

While we were in Scarborough I also played the Holbeck Putting Green. That course has also been open since 1925.

The two miniature golf putting courses were among the first to open in the UK. England's first artificial Crazy Golf course opened in Skegness, Lincolnshire in 1926.

Check out my blog post about the miniature golf courses in Scarborough. There are quite a few in the seaside town.

Minigolf in Paris

We've played two Paris-themed minigolf holes this year - one at the Riverside Bowl's Glo-Golf course and one on the Landmark Golf layout at Wolsingham Sports Hall

Emily has actually been to Paris this year.

I have been to Blackpool though.

Do let us know if you've played any minigolf in Paris? Or if you know of any other Paris-themed minigolf holes?

On the way up to Newcastle upon Tyne last Friday we called in to Wolsingham Sports Hall to play the pop-up Landmark Golf course.

The course had been set up for the week and was proving popular. Some groups were finishing their rounds as we arrived and so we had a clear run at the layout.

We received a nice welcome at the leisure centre and from the chap at Landmark Golf. After Ian from the course had explained the rules and tee-off points we set off on our trip around the world in 9-holes.

It's brilliant when a course has a wow factor and the Landmark Golf course certainly did with the Statue of Liberty. In fact each of the holes had something interesting about them.

We've played a number of fibreglass courses on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour and this was certainly one of, if not, the best so far. We really liked the corner pieces that allowed for rebound skill shots to be played.

In our match-up I managed to secure the win with a round of 18 to Emily's 22.

We've been following Landmark Golf on social media for a while and it was nice we were able to time the trip to Newcastle with one of the Landmark Golf events.

It was really nice to see a portable minigolf course set-up indoors at a sports hall. As we were leaving another couple of groups came in to play. It'd be brilliant if more leisure centres and sports halls had pop-up events like the one in Wolsingham.

Following its busy stint at Wolsingham Sports Hall the course moved up to Newcastle for a run at a hotel.

Speaking with Ian from Landmark Golf he told us that they create a number of different configurations with the course and obstacles and so the layout can be different each time. They've also got one of the 'letters' Crazy Golf courses which spells CRAZY GOLF when set-up. Hopefully we'll get to have another game of Landmark Golf in the future.

North Bay Mini Golf in Scarborough

A visit to our 900th minigolf course - North Bay Crazy Golf in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

North Bay Crazy Golf in Scarborough

Last Friday we made the landmark 900th course visit on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour when we had a round at the North Bay Mini Golf course in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

At our 900th minigolf course!

We were staying near Peasholm Park and had seen a number of the other courses in the North Bay area shortly after arriving in the town. As it was a Friday - and a rainy one at that - none were open.

While walking along the clifftop we spied the North Bay Crazy Golf course and I couldn't run down the hill quickly enough to get a closer look at the 12-hole course.

Luckily for us the course was open

It's always nice to find unique courses and the North Bay Crazy Golf course is that. There are some very nice hole-in-one opportunities and a few tricky second putts on the colourful course. What was really nice to see was that the borders had felt on them that allowed skillful shots to be rewarded.

In our round I shot a 24 to take the win, with Emily scoring a 26 and our friend Cat Patterson hitting a 33.

It was brilliant chatting to the course owners. They've got a real passion for the game and have created a fun and challenging layout. They told us that the course record was a 20, but not many players get close to that or even near to my round of 24. That was very nice to hear. If the weather hadn't gotten worse and if the day was longer I would've had another round or two to try and beat the record.

Luckily when we swung by the course on the Sunday of our weekend away the course was doing a brisk trade in the sunnier conditions. Before we wandered along the coast to the South Bay I managed to have another round, but didn't score as well as I had on my first go, shooting a 27.

The course can be easily found next to the main road and beach in Scarborough's North Bay.

Scarborough and its two bays are well worth visiting. We'll be heading back to the seaside resort and look forward to playing the North Bay Crazy Golf course again then.

North Bay Mini Golf in Scarborough

The North Bay Crazy Golf course was the 900th visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour since September 2006. When our travels began there were around 600 courses in the UK. We've now been to 862 courses in the British Isles and 39 overseas. The North Bay Crazy Golf course was the 520th we've played in the last 13 years as a number of courses we've visited have been closed, derelict, flooded or abandoned.

North Bay Mini Golf in Scarborough

After our weekend in Scarborough we'd visited a total of 901 courses. The latest being the Holbeck Putting Green in the South Bay, a course that had been there since 1925!
