The Battle of Stockport Borough

There can be only one winner!

Stockport infographic at The Old Rectory Pub in Stockport town centre

As there is a lack of sport going on anywhere at the moment The Stockport Show has organised The Battle of the Borough to find out which bit of Stockport is the best!

There are a number a mouthwatering clashes and the event has certainly got me and fellow Stopfordians excited.

Each day two areas of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport will go face-to-face in a live poll on Twitter and Facebook every day to decide the ultimate champions.

My area - Cheadle Hulme - is competing as The Cheadles alongside Cheadle Royal, Cheadle Village and Cheadle Heath. Our first round tie is with Reddish.

I've got a bit of a soft spot for reddish as it's home to Reddish South railway station. One of the UK's least used stations and one of the stops on the infamous once-a-week Parliamentary ghost train!

I'm really looking forward to following the action as it unfolds.

It's our nearest course. We've never been allowed to play it as it's for tenants of the offices only.

Merry Christmas from Stockport

Christmas has come early. Too early.

Merry Christmas from our local B&M in Cheadle Heath, Stockport!

This is the earliest we've ever seen a Christmas aisle in a shop.

I know the weather has been bad this summer, but surely it's too soon to be thinking about Christmas shopping.

The Simpsons ice cream van art

Spotting another Simpsons ice cream van.

It's always fun spotting Simpsons stuff while out and about and the family often appear in the artwork on ice cream vans, such as this glorious one we saw in Leeds.

We've also seen The Simpsons adorning Steve's Ices in Stockport.

New Free From range at Morrisons

Morrisons launches new Free From products.

Towards the end of last month Morrisons expanded its range of Free From products and the news sent ripples of excitement through the Coeliac and Gluten Free communities. I was particularly excited to hear that there were going to be new Curly Fries in the range, along with a number of other sweet and savoury treats.

The updated branding, word of mouth buzz and excitement and the promise of new gluten and wheat free products at Morrisons means I've been spending a lot more time (and money) at my local store in Cheadle Heath. Much of the last two weeks has been spent keeping an eye out for the Curly Fries and Hash Browns. Luckily I managed to track some down on my dinner break today. I know what I'll be having for tea tonight!

Looking in the Free From section I noticed a number of other gluten free products from brands outside of the Morrisons own-brand range, which is great to see.

Last year Morrisons expanded the range of Free From products available in store and so it's brilliant they are continuing to provide products that are safe and suitable for people with allergies, intolerances and autoimmune diseases (such as Coeliac Disease).

Check out the Morrisons website for details of their Free From range.

A Santa Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man in Stockport

Spotting a Christmas-themed Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man in Stockport.

While heading to my local Morrisons supermarket in Cheadle Heath my finely honed senses alerted me to something ludicrous across the car park - a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man at the Stockport branch of Terry's Fabrics.

And it wasn't just any old Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man. No, it was a Father Christmas Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man! Something I've not seen before. A marvellous a sight to behold.

In my element

It's almost a year to the day since I spotted a non-articulated inflatable advertising Xmas Tree in my old home town of Luton.

Airdancers - to give them their official name - are one of my favourite forms of advertising. They certainly are attention grabbing.

Do check out the Terry's Fabrics, Stockport website for more info.

Miniature Golf course at the Park Square offices in Cheadle Hulme

As some of you will know Emily and I have recently moved to Cheadle Hulme in Cheshire after spending 16 great years in Luton, Bedfordshire.

It's been a marvellous adventure uprooting to the north of England and there's so much for us to explore up here.

On one of our first wanders around the local area we started walking towards Stockport and just five minutes into our journey Emily spotted a miniature golf course at the front of the Park Square office building on Bird Hall Lane in Cheadle Heath!

The Putting course in Cheadle Heath

Proof we can find a course pretty much anywhere we go!

At the 694th miniature golf course visited on our travels

The grass Putting course looks fantastic and in pristine condition.

How nice does that look as a playing surface!

What an office location to work in. We'd love to have a round on the layout and wonder what the course record is?

It's not a flat course either

The course became the 694th visited on our Crazy World of Minigolf Tour since our travels began in September 2006.

A tee-off marker on the 9-hole course

Look at that for a hole!

While the course at Park Square was the first we've visited while living in Greater Manchester, it's not the first we've visited or played in the area. We've also competed in tournaments in Manchester - with a fair bit of success, winning the Miniature Masters, Miniature Open and the Chrizy Golf Masters.

There are also a number of other minigolf, crazy golf and adventure golf courses in the region that we're looking forward to playing over the summer. And beyond.

Check out the Orbit Developments website for more information on the Park Square office location.
